Some of the most popular meal replacement shakes in the world right now belong to Herbalife.

The company has had its detractors because of its multi-level marketing system.  But what does that say about their products? 

Are they healthy?

• Sugars: 9g
• Calories: 90
• Fat: 1g
• Fiber: 3g
• Protein: 9g

The label shows that the primary ingredients are soy protein and fructose.  One shake will provide you with 9 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar.

Calories are 170 per shake.

Compared to Slimfast, the Herbalife shake has 20 less calories, 3 fewer grams of protein and 4 more grams of sugar.

Drinking a meal replacement shake is a great solution for people looking to reduce caloric intake.  The average meal is around 400-500 calories.  Replace that with 170 and you have made a dent in your calorie reduction goal.

Herbalife also claims that their shake provides 21 essential vitamins, nutrients, and minerals.

So is Herbalife healthy for you?

Well, the answer is a definitive…maybe.

There is nothing dangerous here, but there is a little too much sugar.

In my opinion, a smoothie made at home might be a better option.  You can add protein, veggies and a banana…viola, a low cal shake. 

Consider you pocketbook and then make a decision would be my advice.
