Keto Causes Gout?

The Ketongenic or Keto diet is associated with some of the strangest theories that you will ever hear.

It causes heart attacks!

It makes you fat!

It makes you watch reruns of “The Office”!  (Sorry, I just made that one up)

One of the most popular proclamations made by many in the health community is that The Keto Diet causes gout.

Take a stroll through the Google results and you will find people who swear that The Keto Diet is the devil and will not only cause gout but will cause every other problem that is known to man.

Could this possibly be true?

What Is Gout?

Gout is a very common disease of the rheumatoid system that currently affects in excess of 8 milion people in the U. S. alone.  gout

The cause is above normal production of uric acid.  This overabundance of uric acid triggers the body’s immune cells resulting in major problems such as pain, fever, or inflammation.  This happens periodically and these episodes are called “flares”.

Gout is often misdiagnosed; as a high uric acid reading could possibly be an anomaly or a result of a temporary problem.

So How Does The Keto Diet Cause This?

Well, it doesn’t….end of post!

Just kidding about the end of the post, but the fact is that research shows that following a Keto diet actually relieves the symptoms of gout.

A Ketogenic Diet is a low carb, moderate protein and high healthy fat eating plan that has been around since the 1920’s.  It was originally prescribed by the medical community to treat epilespy.

It also is believed to help with other neurological diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson, depression and many more!

The short term benefits of this diet done correctly are indisputable.  Long term studies will not be available for several years which keeps the naysayers barking about how unhealthy it is.

Remember, do your research people!  And always do what I do.  Test it for yourself.  What works for one person may not work for you.
