Acid Alkaline Weight Loss?

A very strange name for a fairly strange diet. Here is some background:

The Acid Alkaline Diet was developed by Christopher Vasey, a Swiss naturopath who has been in practice for over 25 years. Along with his practice, he teaches natural weight loss classes to other health care workers and occasionally writes a book.

He believes that for the past few centuries, our diets have become primarily acidic due to our heavy reliance on processed foods, sugars, caffeine and large amounts of proteins.

Because our bodies need a good balance of acid and alkaline properties to function properly, he suggests changing the way we eat to incorporate more alkaline foods and reduce the consumption of acidic foods.

According to Vasey, this will give us more energy, better sleep patterns, and will allow us to burn fat much faster.phenq_EN_T_Taiylah-600x300

What Can I Eat?

Your goal is to eat about 70-80% alkaline foods. High to moderate alkaline foods include: broccoli sprouts, cucumbers, kale, wheat grass, parsley, pumpkin seeds, buckwheat, avocado, almonds, lima beans, soy beans, cayenne, sea salt and red chili peppers.

The rest of your diet will consist of foods with low acidity such as: cow’s milk, wild fish, black beans, chickpeas, flaxseed, pecans, cantaloupe, dates and nectarines.

 Pros:

• Improves energy levels and mood.
• Many of the recommended foods contain high levels of nutrients.

 Cons:

• No science backing up claims.

Conclusion

The Acid Alkaline Diet has no scientific proof that it will work, recommends exercise but isn’t specific, and has some strange combination’s of foods. However, most of the recommended foods are high in nutrients.

The result should be weight loss and improved immune function. This is an interesting theory and it might be worth it to give it a try.
