If you are as old as me (and I hope you’re not!), you have probably heard of The Cambridge Diet.

Originally developed in the United Kingdom at Cambridge University, it has been around since the late 1970’s (lasted longer than disco!).

Officially released in 1984, it still enjoys a very avid group of dieters who have experienced some success with it.

This diet is based on very low calorie consumption and is made up of pre-packaged foods, that usually involve drinking 3 servings of their signature Diet formula each day with or without food.

The three servings provide you with protein (either 30 or 50 grams), carbohydrates, fat, fiber and your daily-required vitamin and mineral allowances.

See the diet pills that the celebrities use.

The foods have been formulated to provide precise amounts of vitamins, nutrients and calories – and are available as shakes, soups, or bars.

The daily calorie levels start as low as 415-500 calories per day! Yes that’s right, per day!.

After a week or so, the calories are raised to 790, then to 1,000 calories per day. You must be sure to drink plenty of water on this diet to avoid dehydration.

Since this diet is so restrictive, exercise should be done very carefully. I would not start a new strenuous exercise program while on this plan. Moderate exercise (a nightly walk) is recommended once you start to lose weight, but remember your energy stores will be depleted. Don’t overdue it trying to hurry the weight-losing process.

Pros:

  • There is some scientific research behind this diet.
  • There is tremendous flexibility on this plan.

Cons:

  • This is a very low calorie diet and most dieters will struggle with it.
  • It can be rather expensive.
  • Side effects are probable including headaches and fatigue.

Cambridge Diet Disadvantages Conclusion:
This diet does contain all the essential nutrients for your daily requirements and does have a proven success rate. However, the low number of calories is tough for most people and you will not be able to exercise much.

Also, you are not learning healthy eating habits.

For a short term solution, it will help, but for long term, I wouldn’t try it!

  1. Hi, I am on week 6 of the SS and have lost almost 30 pounds and dropped 3 dress sizes to date. I feel really good too. I am now to the point that I can’t eat bread without getting sick I am worried that I will never be able to eat real food again. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
