How Many Calories
Should I Eat A Day To Lose Weight?

Well, way back in the 1970’s (remember disco?), calorie counting became the next big thing for weight loss. It led to the release of several successful weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers whose premise was giving a number to your food leading to a calorie deficit and ultimately fat loss.

Many desperate dieters began investing in scales, weighing each food item before consuming and using a calculator to keep up with the daily consumption of calories.

But does calorie counting work?

Well, let’s take a look. One pound is equal to 3500 calories. In theory, to lose a pound a week you simply need to create a deficit of 500 calories per day. (7 days x 500 calories=3500). That really doesn’t sound too difficult does it?

Simply creating a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day means you will lose over 50 pounds in a year with very little struggle.

However, it is just too much trouble to count calories. Try this instead. Start adding fat burning foods into your diet while removing “bad” fat choices. Fat contains nearly twice as many calories as any other nutrient.

As far as carbs, don’t cut them out completely, just avoid the breads and starches as much as possible.

Of course, to burn calories, you will need daily exercise at a high intensity.

At least twice a week, all adults should do some form of strength training while aerobic activity should be every day. Aerobic activity includes brisk walking, running, swimming etc.

So put away the scale and begin developing good habits. And don’t worry about how many calories you should be eating!
